Infants & Toddlers

Infants

Our Infant program (6 weeks to 17 months) concentrates on meeting the social-emotional as well as physical needs of our youngest learners. Our qualified and caring teachers nurture our babies as they learn to move and explore the environment around them and develop early language and cognitive skills.

On a daily basis our teachers talk, sing, read and play music for our children to encourage language and conversation skills. Reading aloud to our babies helps build a strong basis in language and literacy skills. Our caregivers ensure a safe physical environment and plan opportunities so our children can safely use all their senses, sight, hearing, smell, taste and touch, to explore the world around them.

Our program is research-based and utilizes a Maryland State approved curriculum to lay a strong foundation for optimum development for all our children.

We work with parents to develop an individualized care plan for every child that includes formulating a personalized daily schedule including feeding, nap and play time. This plan is specially customized to meet the needs of every child according to their age and developmental stage. Communication is critical between home and school and our Brightwheel app ensures parents constantly receive updates, photos and videos on their children’s activities and progress. For babies, this means receiving on a daily basis a detailed report of when, how much and what they ate, diaper changes, when they slept and what activities they engaged in that day.

At the Valley School we’re excited to partner in your baby’s care and development.

Toddlers

Our Toddler Program (18 months to 23 months) continues to build on the language, gross motor and cognitive development skills that we work on with our infants. Toddlers move faster and are even more curious about exploring their environment using all their senses so our experienced teachers provide opportunities for safe, purposeful play and movement to engage their minds and bodies.

As with our infants, our daily schedule includes time for talking, singing, dancing, music, read alouds, and moving our bodies. Again we use a research-based Maryland state approved educational curriculum to plan our activities and provide a strong foundation in the development of the whole child. With our toddlers we start to transition to scheduled times for eating, napping and playing and we work on creating familiar routines that help our children thrive and grow.
Safety remains our first priority and close and careful supervision is key to our program.

Parents in our toddler program also receive a daily report of their child’s feeding, diapering and napping times as well as information about their play activities as it relates to their growth and development. Our Brightwheel app ensures parents receive daily messages, photos and videos updates. Fostering open and positive lines of communication between home and school is another critical component to our program. For those children showing signs of readiness we closely collaborate with parents to work on potty training both at school and at home.

The Valley School understands that toddlerhood is fun, exciting and busy time for your child and we love joining in the successful care and education of your child.
